Record year for tennis club

BEVERLEY Lawn Tennis Club reported a record year at its annual general meeting this week.

Match secretary Paul Ridley told the meeting of several successes over the past season.

These included the men’s veterans over-55s team winning the ‘A’ league this year, 12 months after taking the ‘B’ league in their first year.

Team members included three former singles champions at the club and two former ex-junior champions.

“This shows that tennis really is a game for life,” said chairman Jon Pope as he congratulated the team.

Both the ladies and men’s vets team have been promoted to the next groups in their league. Also the men’s first team won their division championship .

Amongst the younger players, the girls’ under-12s won their league.

Club treasurer Chris Widdas said membership subs for senior players (over 18) would be frozen this year, whilst those for juniors are being reduced.

A new social play evening will be held every Wednesday, starting on April 6, from 6.30pm and all members are welcome.
