TYNEMET College are celebrating after their basketball team made it to a national finals.
TyneMet Titans were one of the teams taking part in the North East Regional British Colleges Basketball Tournament held at John Spence Community High School.
The tournament ended in a nail-biting showdown between TyneMet and Gateshead College, with the Titans winning 50-11, earning them the title and qualifying them for a place in the National Basketball Final in Bath in March.
The Titans played fantastic games, winning all of their heats.
They beat Hartlepool 50-9, Prior Pursglove 52-8, Gateshead 49-10 and Redcar and Cleveland 53-11.
It means the Titans have won the north east tournament four times in the last five years and once finished second overall in the national competition.
Marc Steutel, head basketball coach for the North East Sports Academy Basketball Development Centre at TyneMet College, was delighted with the results and is looking forward to the national finals.
Marc said: “Once again I am so proud of the performance both on and off the court of our players.
“We will be representing the region at the national finals at Bath University once again on March 22 claiming bragging rights as the ‘Premier’ basketball college in the north east.
“Contributions were made by every team member and the results achieved were testament to a real team effort.”
