Resurgent Tynemouth firsts halted by the weather

Tynemouth’s first team visited Benwell Hill on Saturday and had reduced the home side to 71-6 in the 23rd over when the rain came and play was abandoned.

David Hymers recorded 3-28 off his 12 overs, including four maidens, and Finn Lonnberg took 1-11 off four overs before being replaced by Ruhan Pretorious.

Pretorious took 2-26 off seven overs with three maidens.

There were catches for Marcus Turner, Oliver McGee and skipper Ben Debnam.

Sadly the intervention of the weather is becoming a too familiar story, with Tynemouth on top but denied the win.

The second team hosted Hill’s second string, who were better placed than their firsts at 60-1 off 18.3 overs when this game was also abandoned.

Josh Koen recorded 1-31 off nine overs with the important wicket of Ben Mussett, lbw for 23, Owen Hollins was 0-18 off eight and Ryan Macciocchi was 0-5 when half way through his interrupted second over.

Will Taylor was scoring steadily and on 22 not out.

The third team were due to host Northumberland League division one leaders Corbridge but, despite the best efforts of groundsman Paul Jackson, this game was called off on Sunday morning following the deluge from Saturday.
