Rockcliff just edged out Worksop in a closely fought encounter in Nottinghamshire.
The Red and Golds got off to a good start when Stu Thompson gracefully slid over the whitewash for 5-0.
Then Noel Mather, and Andrew Webster with the conversion, extended the lead to 12-0.
Jackson Nunn then scored and converted to bring Worksop back into the game at 12-7.
In the second half Worksop got their noses in front when Richard Chambers scored, converted by Nunn for 14-12.
In a final flurry Rockcliff regained the lead when Webster, in his final game as captain, smashed through to touch down for 17-14.
The game was also Dave Hill’s final one for the club as he hangs up his boots at the age of 60.
Next week Rockcliff host their annual ten-a-side tournament, and teams from the Netherlands, Scotland and Hertfordshire are taking part, along with local sides including Novos, Gosforth, West End, Cullercoats, WBAB, Sam’s Sailors, and Rockcliff.
As part of the event there will be fundraising in aid of Brain Tumour Research in support of former Rockcliff and Newcastle Falcons player Paul van Zandvliet whose guest team, Tanks Battlers, will be looking to make their mark.
