Shields lose top sport after defeat to Whitby

NORTH Shields RFC travelled down to Whitby as league leaders with the North Yorkshire just behind them in second place.

As might be expected it was a close fought encounter with neither side willing to give an inch.

With North Shields having scored a converted try to Whitby’s penalty it looked like the visitors were going to get the points until a converted try from Whitby snatched the win, which takes them above North Shields in the league by a point.

However, North Shields have a game in hand and they will be looking to reclaim top spot when it is played.

On Saturday North Shields travel to Houghton for another league game. Kick-off 2.15pm.
