NORTH Shields suffered the agony of losing at the semi-final stage of the RFU Junior Vase.
Edwardians from Solihull were a well drilled side and put North Shields under pressure from the kick-off.
The pressure resulted in an attempted North Shields clearing kick being charged down and Edwardians scoring a try under the posts, which was converted.
A Shields drive was illegally stopped when an Edwardians forward joined the maul from an offside position and Daniel Persson kicked a penalty.
North Shields were running the ball at every opportunity but this can be a dangerous tactic, especially in your own half, and so it proved when the Edwardians number eight intercepted a pass and scored.
With the added conversion this put Edwardians 14-3 ahead with 20 minutes gone. Edwardians then used their forwards to drive the ball forward and whilst the North Shields pack initially defended well the constant pressure eventually told and the number eight picked the ball out of the maul and again scored under the posts.
This made the half-time score 21-3, and during the break North Shields reorganised their forwards, bringing on Chris Spedding at prop and Oliver Randall and Graeme Herbert in the back row.
The move did not last long as Randall was yellow carded after only five minutes for what the referee deemed was dangerous play when he cleared an Edwardians player off the ball by flipping him over his shoulder, but this was when he was in a low position and the Edwardians forward was not injured at all.
Obviously with North Shields down to 14 men, Edwardians went for jugular.
They continued to drive the ball through their forwards.
Whilst defending against one such drive centre Dale Jones was injured and had to be carried from the pitch to be replaced by Ryan Jones.
The Edwardians pack continued to pile forward and this pressure resulted in a gap opening up in the Shields defence, which they exploited to score another converted try under the posts.
North Shields responded well and an attack from them resulted in Andy Leitch scoring a try with Persson adding the conversion.
North Shields continued to pressurise the Edwardians line and Leitch scored a second try but the conversion was missed.
This was North Shields last score whilst Edwardians continued to attack the North Shields line resulting in two further converted tries.
This gives Edwardians a Twickenham final and North Shields RFC wishes them a successful outcome as the team and their supporters were superb on the day.
