SIX members of Wallsend’s Bushido Judo Kwai competed in the Westgate Judo Club (Newcastle Area British Judo Council) Grades Tournament at the Westgate Centre for Sport.
First to compete was eight-year-old Jack Barnett who fought in the boy’s primary event.
Barnett won all three of his contests in impressive style with maximum points, to win the gold.
Eleven-year-old Jessica Cairns won a silver in the 3rd Kyu (green belt) event.
Ellie Hutton, age seven, fighting in the girl’s yellow belt primaries, in what was a tough pool, took the bronze medal.
Liam Banks, 12, had his work cut out in a very talented group which included the national champion, but still managed to come away with the bronze.
Both Millie Richardson, eight, and Callum McInnes, ten, gave their best and were awarded runner up medals.
Bushido Judo Kwai are now training at their new dojo, which is at Kings Estate Residents’ Association, Milfield Avenue, Wallsend, and are now training on a Monday and Friday.
