Successful season for club’s mini tennis teams

CULLERCOATS Tennis Club’s mini and full ball teams have had a successful winter league season and are looking forward to the Aegon summer leagues starting soon.

The mini red team of Jonny Jordan, Sam Knowles, Paul Freeman, Zoe Parkin and Max Boxshall finished a creditable second in the North East Mini Red League behind a strong Ponteland team with most of the team eligible for the summer league.

The red second team of Oscar Danial, Luke Fawson, Olivia Peterson, Kate Ovington, Alisa Rigg, Marley Rhodes did well in finishing fourth in their league, which was topped by a strong Northumberland county ground team.

The Cullercoats mini orange team of Freddy Stewart, Emma Charlton, Dan Murdoch, Jonny Jordan also finished fourth but will have much more experience in the summer leagues.

The most improved team were the Cullercoats boys 14s team who performed really well to finish third with good victories over Beverley Park and Collingwood clubs.

The team, which consisted of Tom Whiting Adams, Andre Streimann, Ryan Maughan, Alistair Brophy, Robert Conway, Olly Perkins are all eligible for both the Aegon and Durham/Northumberland leagues this summer.

The boys 18s team struggled with the new ratings cap meaning the best eight or so players were ineligible for the league, however, Joe Haines, Phil Rudd, Ben Shaw and Robert Conway all got valuable experience for the summer season ahead.

Coaching on Cullercoats LTC’s newly laid courts is every Saturday from 10.30am to 11.30am, mini orange, age nine and ten, 11.30am to 12.30pm 13 years and under, 12.30pm to 1.30pm teenagers and upwards and 2pm to 3pm, mixed seven to ten years.
