Tee off for charity challenge

Young golfers are being encouraged to sign up for the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Junior Golf Championship 2014.

The long-running competition returns to the region with a qualifying round at Newcastle United Golf Club on Friday, May 30, with winning and top fundraising teams going on to compete in a prestigious regional final at Oulton Hall, Leeds, this summer.

As well as competing against juniors from across the north of England, top fundraising teams will also be in with a chance of meeting Ryder Cup hero Lee Westwood and a host of other top prizes.

Junior Golf Co-ordinator Carl Jones said: “This competition is perfect for young golfers of all experience levels.

“We’ve had high handicappers just starting out in the game to young players who have represented England at junior level in previous years. Everyone is welcome.”

Teams are open to all junior golfers who hold a handicap and can be made up of any combination of boys and girls aged 11 to 18.

Schools and golf clubs looking to enter a team should contact Peter Cartwright on (0191) 236 2574 or email petercartwright_wideopen@yahoo.co.uk
