TyneMet Titans travelled to Maiden Castle Sports Centre at Durham University to take part in the British Colleges Sport (BCS) north east regional tournament and were successful in defending their regional title.

The team secured impressive wins against Tees Valley College, Middlesbrough, 29-4, Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Darlington, 35-0, Hartlepool College, 28-8.

In the final the Titans played against Gateshead College, their biggest rivals. TyneMet rose to the challenge, pulled out all the stops and beat Gateshead with a fantastic score 27-7.

The Titans will now represent the north east region at the BCS National Finals held at Bath University in April next year.

Marc Steutel, head basketball coach, North East Sports Academy, TyneMet College, said: “I am really happy with how all of the players contributed to a great day and their performances on the court were outstanding.

“I am delighted that we managed to retain our regional title and that we have now qualified for the BCS Finals in Bath.

“We came second last year but this year we will be working hard in the hope that we come away with first place.”
