Tynemouth Cricket Club have boosted their bowling options this season by signing Pakistan A player Mohammad Tahir Khan.
The 34-year-old first class cricketer comes from Karachi and plays for Pakistan International Airlines, one of the strongest first class sides in Pakistan.
He is a quality right handed off spinner and useful batsman who has played for Pakistan A.
Tahir will bring a wealth of experience to the club and will also be involved in coaching the seniors on Tuesday nights, juniors on Friday nights and also at the summer camps.
He has previously experienced three seasons of being a professional in the UK, most recently playing for Ainsdale in the Liverpool Competition in 2012 where he took over 40 wickets and scored over 400 runs in a very wet summer.
Tahir will be accompanied by his wife and is looking forward to living locally and playing for Tynemouth and also to pitting his wits against two other successful Pakistani first class professionals in the NE Premier League – Zohaib Khan at Benwell Hill and Lal Kumar at Hetton Lyons.
Tynemouth Cricket Club will be fielding three teams each Saturday from April to September with two Premier League teams and the Northumberland first division team.
Skippers Ben Debnam, Andrew Lineham and Richie Hay were all reconfirmed at the recent AGM.
On a Sunday, Ricky Handa will continue to be skipper of the Premier Thirds whenever he is available. Sam Robson is the new skipper of the mid-week team who will play their home fixtures on a Thursday night in the North-East Mid-Week Cricket League.
