Despite a washout on the first weekend of the cricket season in the north east, Tynemouth Cricket Club could draw satisfaction from their revamped pavilion lounge.
On Thursday night chairman Graeme Hallam called together all the volunteers at the club to celebrate their hard work during the close season with a grand opening of the refurbishment.
Hallam praised stalwart John Carr and all those involved for their achievement and the new look pavilion is there as a testimony.
Looking out from the glow of the pavilion on to the soggy field but well protected square, those celebrating inside were left to wonder when the 2016 could get started.
Further work is planned for the remainder of the pavilion.
And the upgraded outdoor nets, installed thanks to a major grant from the SITA Trust, will soon be in full use.
The pavilion will double up as a refuge for the players and a venue which may be hired for private functions.
The new bar manager is Dominic Holland, who can be contacted for bookings on 07462 981898 and firstname.lastname@example.org
One key player who has returned is the club’s overseas player Tahir Khan following a good season for him last year, a busy first class season in Pakistan and his attendance at all the T20 World Cup games in India.
