On Bank Holiday Monday, Tynemouth seconds hosted Chester-le-Street in the Banks Bowl first round.
On a used wicket that did quite a bit early on, Chester found it difficult to score with any fluidity.
Wickets fell regularly and there was no respite from Tynemouth’s bowlers as Chester eventually finished on 109-9 off their allotted 45 overs. Russell Perry finished with 2-14, Chad Koen 1-20, Tony Lion 4-19, Jamie Coates 3-33 and Ryan Macciocchi 0-20.
Things did not get off to the best of starts in the Tynemouth reply as Chester also got a little bit out of the wicket early on.
Wickets fell regularly and Tynemouth looked to be in trouble.
Thankfully a calm, controlled innings of 36 not out from Coates with help at the crease from Lion (19) and a determined Macciocchi, Tynemouth crept home by one wicket.
Tynemouth first and second teams had their fixtures with Benwell Hill both washed out on Saturday.
