Rockcliff’s injury plagued league season ended with a narrow defeat at near neighbours Wallsend.
The 34-22 reverse means Rockcliff are fourth in Durham and Northumberland Division 2.
Despite leading 19-5 at one stage, Rockcliff could not finish the game off and good work from Wallsend’s backs saw them score three tires to edge in front and hold on for the win, with the Red and Golds collecting only a losing bonus point for their efforts.
Meanwhile in a scratch fixture, Rockcliff Vikings lost 40-21 to Ponteland 2nds, with tries from Rob Staker, Leroy and Sean Mullarkey added to by two Chris Forster penalties.
As the season winds down, Rockcliff still have their final game of the season against Newcastle Ravens at Percy Park at the weekend.
This is also a testimonial game for long serving Rockcliff player Colin Bradshaw, who is hanging up his boots at the young age of 60.
This is followed by the club players’ dinner at Rockcliff.
