A young cyclist is hoping to put the wheels in motion for his Olympic dream.
Richie Allen, from Whitley Bay, is the only boy from the north east to be selected for the Olympic Development Apprenticeship Programme for track and road cycling.
The 15-year-old, a pupil at Whitley Bay High School, will be trained by world class coaches who worked with the likes of Sir Bradley Wiggins and Laura Croft.
Sessions are being held at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow twice a month and he already trains there with the Regional School of Racing and regularly travels to Manchester to race in the track league at the Manchester Velodrome. Richie has represented the north east on many occasions most recently at the UK school games at Manchester and in London in the Prudential Grand Prix performing to high standards.
