Whitley Bay Rockcliff completed their pre-season preparation with a solid 38-12 win against South Shields (formerly South Tyenside College).
Most of the points came in the first half. Club captain Andrew Webster opened the scoring for Rockcliff from a turnover.
New signing Andy Renwick fly-hacked through, picked up and drew two defenders before sending Webster through to touch down.
Sam Stirling then burst through from midfield 30 metres out to score, followed by Webster adding his second.
The forwards had set up a good platform for the backs to work from, and good hands from Simon Ayre set Connor Ball away, and a good offload from Ball sent Webster in to score.
Dale Harrison then notched his first of the match, finishing off another good backs move when he powered through two defenders to cross the line.
South Shields, meanwhile, had kept themselves in the frame with two well worked tries. In the second half, Harrison added his second of the game when he was on hand at the end of a multiphase move.
Next week the Red and Golds are in County Cup quarter final action, away at Wallsend, and then league action in Durham and Northumberland Division 2 commences with an away fixture at Ashington on September 5th.
Meanwhile, the Veterans look forward to an evening fixture on Friday, September 4 when they visit Novocastrians to play the first game under their new floodlights
