GIRLS from Whitley Bay Under-14s and Cramlington Rockets Under-16s rugby league teams travelled to Greetland in Yorkshire to play against some of the country’s best teams.
Cramlington played three tough games, losing narrowly in two.
Whitley Bay were crowned festival champions after winning the last two and drawing their first game.
The girls played really well in all three games and combined some strong defence with some open attractive rugby.
Community rugby league coach Lee Carbutt said: “Both clubs should be immensely proud of backing girls rugby league and giving it their full support.
“This is a magnificent achievement from both clubs being able to field the first ever girls junior teams from the north east.”
