Wins for club’s orange team

COLLINGWOOD Tennis Club mini orange nine and under team had a great victory last weekend over closest rivals Northumberland Club in the Division A North Aegon league.

Gabe Allonby led the way for the home team, winning both singles in straight sets against good county level opposition.

Clara Loughlin also showed great improvement to win her singles, as did Mia Wallace.

Matt Smith, playing at number two, was unlucky to lose two close matches to county level opposition but teamed up well with Allonby to volley the home team to victory in the boys doubles 7-5, 8-6.

With the match poised at 10-8 and two points on offer for the doubles it looked like the match might go to a tie break shoot-out.

However, the girls pairing of Loughlin and Wallace showed great skills to win through 7-5, 10-8 and clinch the match 12-8.

Collingwood orange team have one match to play and sit top of the county league with a 79 per cent win ratio.

Coaching at Collingwood is all day Saturday for juniors and Tuesday evenings 7 pm 8pm for adults.
