A NORTH Tyneside woman is seeing double after winning two top awards at an international kickboxing and karate competition.

Paula Breen, 42, of Moor Park Court, North Shields, beat off stiff competition to win double bronze at the World Kickboxing and Karate Championships, held in Spain.

Paula, a member of the Emulous Sport Kickboxing Club in West Sleekburn, achieved 1st Black Belt status at her former club, the Northern Freestyle Karate Association in North Shields, and went on to be crowned double English champion in February this year after winning two gold medals in points fighting and continuous sparring, which qualified her for the World Championships in Spain.

Paula’s dad Dave Breen, a former Army boxing champion in the 1960s, said: “Well done to Paula.

“She is a great ambassador for the sport and she has not only done herself proud, but also her club, the north east of England and her country.”

Paula will return to improve on her double bronze win at the World Championships, which will be held in Canada next year.
