Sam plays for England Lions
A Whitley Bay girl has made her ‘international’ debut at rugby league.
Samantha Hulme plays for Whitley Bay Barbarians and Leeds Rhinos rugby league teams and her performances have brought her to the attention of selectors.Last Saturday she represented England Community Lions against Wales in a match which was played at St Helens.
It was the Lions first-ever game but unfortunately they lost narrowly 20-24..
Of her selection she said: “It was a great honour to have been selected. I was very excited.” She took up rugby under the watchful eye of Lee Carbutt a former professional rugby league player and now a teacher at Astley High Seaton Delaval.
