And now the museum’s galleries and indoor attractions reopened on May 17.

Visitors to Segedunum can expect their experience to be different from the time before Covid-19.

To make it easier for visitors to stay a safe distance apart, a limited number of people will be admitted at any one time and they are asked to book their visits in advance.

Geoff Woodward, Museum Manager North & South Tyneside, TWAM, said: “We are delighted to be able to reopen this important World Heritage Site.

"Segedunum Roman fort presents a very accessible and engaging experience of the eastern end of the Hadrian’s Wall frontier, with significant archaeological remains.”

Steve Bishop, Senior Manager of Cultural Services at North Tyneside Council, said: “It’s great to see one of the North Tyneside’s most famous visitor attractions reopen. I know a lot of hard work has been done behind the scenes to make sure that returning visitors have a safe and memorable visit and I wish the venue every success.”
