Museum welcomes back visitors to indoor galleries

Segedunum Roman Fort & Museum in Wallsend, has been welcoming back visitors this week as lockdown measures ease.

The attraction, which is managed by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM), had reopened its outdoor spaces to the public at the beginning on the month.

And now the museum’s galleries and indoor attractions reopened on May 17.

Visitors to Segedunum can expect their experience to be different from the time before Covid-19.

To make it easier for visitors to stay a safe distance apart, a limited number of people will be admitted at any one time and they are asked to book their visits in advance.

Geoff Woodward, Museum Manager North & South Tyneside, TWAM, said: “We are delighted to be able to reopen this important World Heritage Site.

"Segedunum Roman fort presents a very accessible and engaging experience of the eastern end of the Hadrian’s Wall frontier, with significant archaeological remains.”
