A football club is hosting a different set of ‘players’ for the first time.

Cloud Nine Theatre Company are taking their production to Whitley Bay FC’s Hillheads ground as part of a week tour.

The new play, written by Peter Mortimer, and titled The Stolen Rubber Band is a three-handed comedy and will be performed in the ground’s Seahorse Club on October 24.

Peter Mortimer, a regular at Hillheads, said: “Cloud Nine like to take their work into non-traditional venues, but a football ground is a first. The cast are looking forward to a new kind of audience.”

Whitley Bay FC chairman Paul McIlduff added: “Whitley Bay FC are delighted Cloud Nine are bringing their theatre to Hillheads and we hope it will be the first visit of many.”

The performance is at 7.30pm. Tickets can be bought from the ground or via (0191) 291 3637.

The play is also being performed that week at The Low Lights Tavern, North Shields; Surf Cafe, Tynemouth; The Yoga Station, Whitley Bay; and Whitley Bay Comrades Club.
