Two north east football legends will be looking back on their careers at a special talk.
Former Newcastle United left back John Beresford and ex-Sunderland striker Eric Gates will be at 42nd Street, in Whitley Bay, to talk about their respective careers and the current fortunes of the clubs.
Hosted by Relentless Promotions, bar manager Gaz Harding – himself a Sunderland fan – cannot wait for the event and is sure that it will not only prove to be an instant success but also the first of many.
He said: “This is the first we’ll have done and we’ve been speaking about it with Danny Cox (of Relentless Promotions) for about a year now so it’s time we did something about it.
“We had been looking at new concepts and there’s been nothing of this sort in the area so why not, especially when you look at the calibre of the two players.”
Both former England internationals ‘Gatesy’ appeared for Sunderland in the late 80’s making near 200 appearances for the Black Cats winning the old Third Division title in 1988.
Meanwhile ‘Bez’ was a stalwart of Kevin Keegan’s Entertainers during the 90’s winning the old First Division title in 1993 and being runner-up in the Premier League and FA Cup.
“We’ve got a good Sunderland contingent here in the Bay so the fact that we have one from each side of the divide will go do down well,” Harding continued.
“We’re definitely hoping that Bez talks about the Keegan era and, as a SAFC fan then Gatesy will tell it how it is and maybe give insight into the current predicaments across the region.”
