Choir still going strong at 60

BACKWORTH Male Voice Choir is currently rehearsing for a concert which is part of it’s 60th birthday celebration.

Sixty years after being formed by miners of Backworth Colliery the original community spirit still remains strong.

It consists of 60 men from all ages, occupations and musical abilities sharing the same interest in singing.

The choir are anticipating a visit from world renowned conductor and composer Dr Alwyn Humphreys along with local soprano soloist Delia McNally for a workshop followed by a concert.

The concert, to be held at St John’s Church, Ilfracombe Gardens, is one of many events taking place during this diamond jubilee year.

The concert is said to be a fitting tribute to all those who have been associated with the choir over the years as well as those with an interest in singing.

The choir encourages anyone to come along on Saturday at 7pm for what will be an exciting and engaging evening of music.

Tickets are priced £5.
