THE North Tyneside Steelband have been invited to take part in the 2011 National Festival of Music for Youth.
The band has just returned from a guest appearance at a festival in Sussex and will now be one of only five steelbands to take part in the national event in Birmingham in July.
And it is not the first time the band has been invited to the national event.
Team member Anna Darling, from Monkseaton, said: “We are all excited at being asked to play at the national stage of the festival again.
“The last two times that we were there we were invited to play the Schools Proms at the Albert Hall, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we can make that three in a row.”
The band will also be appearing locally at St Mary’s Lighthouse in Whitley Bay, on Saturday, June 4, from noon to 2pm.
