A summer festival of live music and family workshops is continuing next week.

North Tyneside’s popular Summer Festival will see events again held at Tynemouth Station and the Spanish City Plaza in Whitley Bay.

Tynemouth Station will host a Mind Sports Festival and LEGO workshops from August 17 to 21, between 10am and 4pm.

People of all ages will be encouraged to play popular games including draughts, chess and backgammon. There will also be other types of giant games set up on the platform and tutors will be on hand to pass on helpful tips.

Construction Kids will be there too, running workshops where children can build LEGO masterpieces.

Sessions are fun and challenging, but are limited to 30 children at a time.

The Spanish City Plaza will host a free week-long programme of live music, between noon and 3pm each day.

A variety of jazz bands will perform between August 17 and 21, while brass bands will be entertaining audiences on August 22 and 23.

More events scheduled at Tynemouth Station and the Plaza during the summer include street entertainers fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, activities for under-fives and live jazz.

The events are all part of the North Tyneside Summer Festival, supported by DFDS Seaways.

Other events planned over the next week across the borough include; Whitley Bay Film Festival, a Circus Skills Workshop at Playhouse Whitley Bay and a Teddy Bears Picnic at Rising Sun Countryside Centre.
