A rally event is returning to Tynemouth this weekend for the third consecutive year.

The ever popular classic Volkswagen Rally is promising to be even better than last year with more vintage VW vehicles on display on Saturday, July 27.

Thousands of people are expected at the event, based on the Spanish Battery and Priors Haven car parks, with a wide range of vehicles, of all ages and condition, already signed up.

Jill Snaitham, event organiser, said: “We can’t believe the amazing restored vehicles in the north east that people email us about, some of them are rarely seen on the road but people have been polishing and getting them MOT’d especially for the event.”

June Stevenson, who attended last year’s event, said “We really enjoyed chatting to the owners and hearing about the histories of some of the camper vans.

“We took the grandkids, they love camper vans and had a great day out.”

Visitors will be able to vote for their favourite VW car and camper, while past winners will be in attendance displaying their trophies.

The free event will also feature a barbecue, VW-themed merchandise, camper van bouncy castle and cutest dog show, culminating in a VW cruise along the coast from Tynemouth to St Mary’s Lighthouse.
