A special event is taking place to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day.
A ceremony will be held outside the gates of Tynemouth Priory and Castle on Friday, May 8, just before 9.30pm.
Civic dignitaries, guests of honour and residents are all invited to the special event to mark Victory in Europe and the start of the end of the Second World War.
The Beacon Lighting Ceremony will include a local cadet playing a fanfare to announce the start of the lighting ceremony; a tribute read by an ex-serving member of the armed forces and the official lighting of the beacon at 9.30pm.
VE Day represents an important milestone in history, when 70 years ago peace broke out and brought an end to nearly six years of war across Europe.
VE Day is a celebration of peace – a time to remember and pay tribute to all those who played their part in achieving it.
The 70th anniversary of VE Day will see beacons lit in cities throughout the UK, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
All are welcome to attend.
