Now in its 12th year, the event – organised by Whitley Bay Chamber of Trade and supported by North Tyneside Council – will take place on Whitley Bay beach by Rendezvous Cafe on Sunday, August 4, from 10am.

There are prizes on offer for the best sandcastle or sand sculpture.

Registration takes place from 10am to noon, with judging from 1pm.

As well as the sandcastle competition, there will also be Punch & Judy, Bay Uke, Startastic characters, face painting, and shuggy boats from Turners Funfair.

Flags for each of the sandcastles or sculptures have been made by the Little Acorn Childcare in Whitley Bay.

A competition spokesperson said: “Not only did last year’s event bring families and friends from all the local community together, but families came from Newcaste and South Tyneside.”
