Northumberland Estates is working to overcome the difficulties of ensuring a medieval castle complies with coronavirus guidelines.
Andrew Robson at Northumberland Estates said: “Alnwick Castle is such an important draw for the tourist industry in Northumberland we are keen to see it opening as soon as is feasible.

“We realise how important opening the castle is for the town and local businesses as we all struggle to return to some form of normality, so we are working hard to overcome the many challenges and demonstrate our support for local business at this very difficult time.”
Visitors will be required to purchase timed tickets to visit the castle in advance via the Alnwick Castle website, with a limited number available each day to ensure social distancing can be maintained.
Tickets will be priced at £6 for adults with under 16s free of charge, and a donation from every ticket sold will be shared between the Northumberland Estates charity of the year HospiceCare North Northumberland and three Alnwick charities, The Fusiliers’ Museum, The Alnwick Playhouse and the Bailiffgate Museum.
