A new 20mph speed limit through the centre of Longhoughton is expected to be in place shortly.

County councillor Wendy Pattison said: “The decision report for the 20mph scheme was signed off in mid-August.

“The public notices will be published shortly and decision letters have been issued to residents to confirm the outcome, with the expectation that works will be undertaken/scheme implemented late October/early November.”

○ Coun Pattison has been approached by Burnside residents expressing concern about traffic issues.

She said: “They expressed long-term concern that buses – mainly at weekends and filled with visitors/football teams arriving into Westfield Park – and also daily delivery lorries for the Co-op, are taking the first turn into Burnside, coming from the Denwick direction.

“This causes traffic problems/chaos due to stationary cars parked outside residents’ houses and the road is not wide enough for buses/lorries. Residents request that signage is erected to ensure visiting traffic use the second Burnside turn and the more sensible route located nearer to Westfield Park and the Co-op.”

○ Coun Pattison has donated £2,000 from her members’ small schemes towards new toilets at Howick Village Hall.

○ An application for funding is to be made to Story Homes in a bid to buy a community access defibrillator through The Stephen Carey Fund. The intention is to place it on the Boulmer Lifeboat building. The crew has said it would maintain the equipment.

○ The parish council has put forward its priorities for consideration in Northumberland County Council’s Local Transport Plan 2018/19. These are to tackle traffic issues in Boulmer, including parking; a traffic-management review in Burnside, Crowlea Road and Lacey Street, in Longhoughton; and a review of Boulmer’s pavements.
