1. Alnwick Castle

2. Bamburgh Castle

3. Chillingham Castle
Dubbed Britain's most haunted historic castle, Chillingham is a 13th century, Grade 1 Star-listed stronghold in the heart of the county. The castle is aiming to open on Monday, May 17, daily from 11am to 5pm. There is no need to book in advance. Photo: Paul Larkin
4. Lindisfarne Castle
Dominating the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the 16th-century fortress is only accessible via a tidal causeway. The castle's outdoor spaces and shop are currently open and the castle interior will re-open on May 22. You will need to book your visit in advance - available now.
