Woodland Champions Club, on behalf of landowner Jamie Hope, is consulting Northumberland County Council on a proposal for use of a site off Weetwood Road.

It has an exemption certificate issued by Natural England which enables it to approve sites for members to stay at, by issuing certificates to landowners.

The certificate would be valid for one year and would allow up to five caravans and 10 tent pitches on land to the north of the sewage disposal works.

Woodland Champions Club is a not-for-profit member’s organisation which facilitates landowners to run small, superior quality campsites in woodland or other natural habitats around the UK.

Club secretary Ben Carden said: “The objectives of the club are to support small business, promote healthy active outdoor recreation, as well as actively encouraging the planting of new mixed-species native woodland. We achieve this in collaboration with The Woodland Trust.”
