However, parish councillors do not believe that will solve the problem of parking congestion at peak times of the year.

That was also the consensus of a recent meeting of residents and businesses who want the authority to consider a fresh consultation on double yellow lines on both sides of the road, preferably seasonal between April 1 and October 31.

Coun Kirsty Dobson, providing an update to parish councillors, said: “We are concerned that this is going to create a parking issue elsewhere in Bamburgh and feel that parking on The Wynding can not be taken in isolation without addressing the overall parking issue.

“There have been lot of green suggestions from the community, such as a drop area and to find more parking areas outside of the village and a park and ride system.

“It is urgent because we want it sorted before the summer.”

Concerns have previously been raised about emergency services access.

There is already a small car park by the beach but it is quickly filled in the summer.

There have also been discussions between Bamburgh Castle Estates and Northumberland County Council planning officers to try and find another way of relieving parking congestion issues at peak periods.
