Special school maintains good rating

Nunnykirk Centre for Dyslexia, which caters for pupils from across Northumberland, has maintained its good rating from Ofsted.

As well as being rated as good – the second of the four rankings handed out by education inspectors – for the overall experiences and progress of children and young people, the school is also good in terms of the quality of care and support; how well children and young people are protected; and the impact and effectiveness of leaders and managers.

The report says: ‘Young people are very happy at school and during their residential stays, and all young people rated the school as a very good place to be’.

In terms of further improvement, the school should ‘provide ongoing, bespoke development and training plans for all residential staff’ and ‘establish a written development plan to manage the upkeep of the school’.

Nunnykirk Centre for Dyslexia, located around 10 miles north-west of Morpeth, is a non-maintained residential special school providing a specialised service for pupils aged between nine and 18 with dyslexia and associated learning difficulties.
